Alessandro Levi is the CEO and founder of Semplus, an innovative pressure sensor technology company. Based in Silicon Valley, Semplus partners with industrial, automotive and consumer tech companies to enhance the user experience with smart surfaces. Prior to launching Semplus in 2014, Alessandro was a researcher at Stanford University in the department of Material Science and Engineering. Alessandro holds a PhD in Information, Communication and Robotics from Italian Institute of Technology and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, with a centration in tactile sensors and human machine interfaces for soft robotics.

RAMA / interviews about music

RAMA consists of a series of interviews conducted between 2012 and 2017.
These explore the DIY music scene of Italy and Europe; a group of artists known and less known within the Italian as well as the global scene contributed to this research with their personal accounts.
The aim was that of investigating the stories from some of the leading characters and get to know how this field got to change throughout the years, with the coming of new digital content sharing technologies

WITHIN THE MYTH

Through an interview with Christina Oakley-Harrington, founder and owner of Threadswell’s bookshop in London and former lecturer in Medieval and Theological History at the University of Surrey, we discuss some of the narrative themes around religion, myth and folklore. In analysing such themes, we deal with topics ranging from fan culture, to advertising, from comparative folklore to superstition, surveying some of the roles of certain narrative structures within modern society, as well as researching some of the possible dynamics that drive audience's choices.

 

AFIAS - PETROLEUM PLANTS AND ENVIRONMENT:
AN INEVITABLE CLASH

The impact of oil industry in Lucania is changing the territory, affecting local life, local economy and people’s wellbeing. We interviewed and spent time with local people who nearby the petrol plants, surveying their feelings and outlooks.
*This work is part of a documentary film (A Film I Have Already Seen) aiming to survey the effects of oil industry on rural communities in southern Italy.

 

AFIAS - PIG SLAUGHTERING IN A MOUNTAIN VILLAGE

In rural communities of southern Italy, pig-slaughtering is still a common economic activity, as well as a traditional feast. This seems to outline the value of certain autarchic traits still present in small villages. Blending with a local family, we documented this practice in its most authentic aspects.

PERCEPTION OF BEAUTY AND USE OF MAKEUP IN FOUR YOUNG WOMEN

Title: “Perception of beauty and use of makeup in four young women”. Summary: The exploratory case study surveys how beauty is perceived in different cultural contexts as well as investigating usability of make-up. The research analyses perceptions, motivations, attitudes and behaviour of four young italian women through in-depth interviews, observation, attitude analysis, needs analysis, and product usability tasks.

Through this series of interviews we aim to investigate the Neomelodic reality, documenting the stories of some of the exponents.
